Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie, is embarking on a new era. As it refocuses on Florida, the company plans to close its Winn-Dixie stores in other states. The new era plan includes bringing all stores under one name and focusing on the market in Florida.
The Winn-Dixie Company to Operate in Home State, Florida
According to Businesswire, Southeastern Grocers, LLC (SEG) has announced plans to rename and refocus its operations in early 2026. Consolidating under one brand, Winn-Dixie, it is leaning back on its long history in Florida. Florida will become the company’s primary market as it shutters locations elsewhere.
SEG also plans to acquire additional stores to expand its Florida footprint. Following this, the company will modernize its stores and upgrade the customer experience. These changes mark the start of a new chapter for Winn-Dixie in Florida.
By streamlining operations around Florida, the company aims to continue its century-long legacy. It will also improve competitiveness and local relevance while bringing better service to customers. This way, the company will launch its next chapter with a new growth strategy.
Remodels and New Projects on the Way
For its next growth chapter, SEG has tied up with multiple grocers to continue serving its customers in southern Georgia. It will operate 130 grocery stores and 140 freestanding and grocery-adjacent liquor stores in Florida. These stores will all undergo changes that will modernize them.
The stores will be remodeled with upgrades designed to create welcoming, community-focused spaces. The stores will expand their liquor store portfolio, and will include products from its award-winning Own Brand product assortment. New services, including delivery and in-store kiosks, will enhance the shopping experience.
Stores Outside the State to Close
In line with the new changes, SEG will exit 32 Winn-Dixie stores and eight Harvets Supermarkets, which will all undergo a banner transition. Around early 2026, the company will ensure all the changes are set. With these changes, SEG will complete its shift to a Florida-focused operation.
“For a century, Winn-Dixie has proudly called Florida home,” said Anthony Hucker, Chairman and CEO of SEG. “Our story is built on the resilience and spirit of its people, and that foundation will guide our future. As we enter our next century as The Winn-Dixie Company – a brand-new 100-year-old company – we are accelerating growth where our roots run deepest while staying true to our purpose of feeding and enriching the communities, families, and neighbors who have supported us for generations.”
The move highlights SEG’s longstanding roots and history in Florida. This growth strategy will ensure the company’s legacy continues for generations to come.
