Affordable, healthy food is one of the problems faced by consumers in these times of inflation. In response, major retailers are rolling out new programs aimed at easing grocery costs. One of them is Kroger, which recently launched a new savings initiative focused on fresh food.
Healthy Food Made Affordable with Kroger’s New Program
The nation’s largest supermarket chain, Kroger serves millions of customers each day and has long emphasized hunger relief and food waste reduction. Now, the company is expanding those efforts with a new program designed to increase access to fresh food for eligible shoppers. Aiming to bring fresh food to everyone, Kroger has launched its Verified Savings Program.
According to PRNewswire, the program offers 20% discounts on fruits and vegetables and half-off Boost by Kroger Plus memberships. The initiative is designed to make healthy food more affordable. However, the program is limited to customers who receive certain government assistance benefits.
To enroll, consumers need to go through a verification process. Furthermore, they will need to reconfirm their eligibility after five months of enrollment. Participants must also have a Kroger digital account, where the savings are automatically applied.
With this program, consumers will be able to get better discounts on products. They will also be able to avail themselves of exclusive offers and other benefits.
Who’s Eligible
The program is targeted specifically to customers enrolled in government assistance programs. Recipients of SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and other programs will be able to get these benefits from Kroger. Using SheerID, consumers can confirm their eligibility for the program.
Once verified, customers can access the savings through their Kroger digital account. There, the savings will be added to their account for five months. After this, reverification of eligibility is required.
Benefits of the Program
Through this program, Kroger is offering 20% off on fruits and vegetables to eligible customers. The savings on all fruit and vegetable purchases are valid through January 31, 2026. However, verified members are eligible for half-price annual and monthly Boost membership plans.
This means the Boost Essential plan will be available for $34.50 per year or $4.50 per month. The Boost plan will be available at $49.50 per year or $6.50 per month.
With a Boost membership, customers can enjoy benefits like unlimited free delivery on orders of $35 or more. They will also get Boost 2x Fuel Points, access to streaming options, and membership-exclusive offers.
Kroger is taking this initiative to reduce barriers to affordable, healthy groceries. Aiming to combat hunger, it is making good food accessible to all.
