Sam’s Club just announced it has removed unwanted ingredients and synthetic colors from all Member’s Mark products. Based on direct member feedback and innovation, the Walmart-owned retail store chain had set the goal for the end of 2025.​

Sam’s Club Removes 40+ Ingredients from Member’s Mark​

Sam’s Club confirmed it has reached its 100% ‘Made Without’ target across all Member’s Mark food and beverage items. The process involved removal of more than 40 unwanted ingredients and certified synthetic colors, such as aspartame, high-fructose corn syrup, and artificial flavors.​

Even with the ingredient changes, Member’s Mark products retain their signature taste and value.

The Walmart-owned retail brand had set this goal back in 2022 as part of its plans to meet Made Without Commitment™ standards. Through this, Sam’s Club aspired for 100% of its food and beverage offerings to be free from ingredients on it made without list by 2025.

How the Change was Possible

​Sam’s Club noted that the latest development was possible through a collaborative effort between its product developers, merchants, and suppliers. Sam’s Club credits its members for guiding these changes through direct feedback and product suggestions.

​The Walmart-owned retail brand stated that the current goals could be achieved by innovating via new recipes, methods, and ideas. Bakery items posed a particular challenge, as developers had to maintain texture and visual appeal while meeting the new standards.

​As a result, Sam’s Club’s product developers had to bring in innovative ideas that met the Made Without Commitment standard while maintaining the beauty of the bakery items.

Removing synthetic colors from sports drinks was tricky. Sam’s Club addressed this by incorporating color in the packaging instead of the beverage itself. This helped the brand ensure the benefits of sports drinks were not lost.

In some cases, products were removed from shelves when they couldn’t be reformulated to meet the ‘Made Without’ standards.

What is Next for Sam’s Club

With its ‘Made Without’ goal achieved, Sam’s Club plans to expand the standards to cosmetics, laundry, and health and wellness products in 2026.
