Structural Changes in the Restaurant Sector

A report by Research and Markets throws light on the scalability projections of restaurants by the next six years. According to it, the food service restaurant market’s market value in 2025 was found to be $1.42 trillion. This year, the figure may increase up to $1.49 trillion, with the CAGR being 4.92%. Additional details show that this value may grow to $1.99 trillion by 2032.

The report deduces that the increasing values are an indicator of growing consumer demand in the restaurant space. However, the market continues to face notable structural changes.

The report adds that as of now, the food service restaurant industry is stepping into a phase of accelerating changes. As technology usage becomes the new norm in this sector and consumer demands keep changing amid plentiful options, restaurants are dealing with operational troubles.

Additionally, tariff policies that were added last year have resulted in cost fluctuations and pushed businesses to make adjustments to their menus and supply chain.

The troubled state of restaurant businesses in the country has already been evident through multiple bankruptcies in the first two months of 2026.

Twin Hospitality Group Inc., the parent entity behind casual dining brands Twin Peaks and Smokey Bones, entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy on January 26. The franchisor and operator’s decision came months after it announced nationwide expansion plans and a leadership update. Along with Twin Hospitality Group Inc., over 150 of its affiliates had also filed for bankruptcy.

A Phoenix brunch establishment began Chapter 11 proceedings on February 2. BB Restaurant Group, LLC, which runs its business as Breakfast Bitch, had filed for the process to reorganize its debts.  The eatery, which was described as a small business debtor in the filing, entered bankruptcy two years after facing unpaid rent issues and an eviction notice.

Company Background

Buster’s Sports Tavern and Family Eatery has operated as a casual sports bar and restaurant ever since it opened in 2011. Over the years, it has served a range of food and drinks at its Fort Myers location. The tavern features multiple televisions broadcasting sporting events.

C & S Restaurant Group’s bankruptcy filing indicates a growing financial strain in the restaurant market. The restructuring process will determine the company’s path forward.
