On November 20, 2025, Prime Food Processing LLC issued an urgent recall of two varieties of dessert buns. The product contains an undeclared milk allergen. The company moved quickly once the labeling mistake was identified.
The packaging of the recalled products does not declare milk in the “Contains” allergen section. The milk in it is derived from the unsalted butter listed in the ingredients. The undeclared milk could trigger severe or life-threatening reactions in affected consumers.
The problem with the products was identified during an internal product review. Later, an investigation was conducted to pinpoint the root cause of the issue. It revealed that the problem was due to a temporary breakdown in the company’s label review process.
A recall was immediately issued in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No illnesses have been reported to date. The company is continuing to notify customers about the recall.

The recalled products are Prime Food-branded Lava Bun with Salted Egg Yolk and Lava Bun with Green Tea Flavor. The products were distributed in Asian grocery stores in 33 states between April 2, 2025, and November 14, 2025. The states it was distributed to include: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.
