Saks & Company LLC Closures to Affect 400+ Employees in Pennsylvania

Saks & Company LLC has filed a WARN notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. The department has been notified of the permanent closure of the company’s distribution center on May 31, 2026. The layoffs are scheduled to begin on May 3, 2026.

According to the notice, the closure will affect 435 employees in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The department has been notified of the closure to help employees through this transition.

Reason for the Closure

In January 2026, the company’s parent organization filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The filing cited unsustainable debt levels, liquidity constraints, and inventory challenges. The announcement came with news that the company had secured $1.75 billion in financing to help fund operations during the process.

During the restructuring, the company also announced a leadership change, naming Geoffroy van Raemdonck as CEO of Saks Global. Following the bankruptcy announcement, the company started restructuring its operations, leading to the closure of several stores.

The company also closed several Saks OFF 5TH and Last Call stores as part of its restructuring strategy. The moves reflect the company’s broader shift toward luxury and full-price retail.

According to PRNewswire, the company continues optimizing its store footprint by closing certain locations. The strategy focuses on the most profitable markets to strengthen the company’s position in luxury retail.

Saks Global will continue operating most of its remaining stores and online platforms as usual. The distribution center at 25 Keystone Boulevard in Schuylkill County will end its operations in May 2026.

About the Company

Saks Global is a multi-brand luxury retailer comprising Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks OFF 5TH. It redefines luxury shopping by offering personalized experiences.

The closure of the Pottsville distribution center will significantly change Schuylkill County’s workforce. The company will continue its restructuring, and affected workers will be guided through the transition. Meanwhile, the company will continue its focus on strengthening its position in the luxury retail market.
