Renowned Regional Furniture Chain Files for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Popular furniture retailer Circle Furniture seeks bankruptcy protection through a Chapter 7 filing, weeks after shutting all stores.​

A popular furniture retail business from Massachusetts, Circle Furniture Holdings, Inc., has filed for bankruptcy. The roughly 70-year-old retailer is seeking to liquidate its assets under court supervision. Weeks earlier, the chain had closed all of its stores amid mounting financial pressure.

Circle Furniture Holdings, Inc. Voluntarily Files for Chapter 7

​According to PACER, Circle Furniture Holdings, Inc., popularly known as Circle Furniture, made a voluntary Chapter 7 filing on January 30. The case is being handled by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Bankruptcy Filing Follows Companywide Shutdown in December 2025

Circle Furniture closed all of its stores on December 23, 2025, according to a report by The Sun U.S. Based in Acton, Massachusetts, the furniture chain had shut down a total of eight stores in the state. This also included the Cape Cod location, which opened its doors last summer.​

At the time of the shutdown, signs on the doors of different Circle Furniture outlets pointed to unspecified renovations, adding to several conflicting explanations.

Employees across the company were informed of the closures via email on December 19. In addition to these developments, the Circle Furniture website had also been taken down.

​As of now, there are no updates regarding the order status of customers of the furniture retailer.

Company Background​

According to Circle Furniture’s LinkedIn page, the family-owned retail giant has grown from six design centers across Massachusetts to one in Portsmouth, NH, over the last 70 years.

​The retailer emphasized quality and sustainability in its home furnishings. Circle Furniture also developed lasting relationships with local furniture manufacturers and vendors, both domestic and overseas.

The Acton-based retailer earned Boston Magazine’s “Best of Boston” honor in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2018 for its American-made furniture.
