Shore Lunch, a company owned by Homegrown Family Foods, is known for its batters, breading mixes, and premium soup mixes. But, on May 29, 2025, the brand had to recall a complete lot of their 6-ounce or 170-gram boxes of Oven Style Breading and Batter mix. The primary locations for the distribution of the product were North Dakota, New York, Ohio, South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

The product comes in a 170g or 6-ounce box and is marked with Best By dates of April 23, 2025, through February 25, 2026. The UPC for the shipment is 2473912000. The lot numbers are as follows:

  • RP129005
  • RP129006

The Best By date, Lot code, and the UPC for this particular shipment can be found at the bottom of the breading and batter box.

Reasons for Recall

On April 23, 2025, one person was reported to have fallen ill after consuming the mix. A consumer’s daughter had an allergic reaction due to the product having traces of milk ingredients despite the label indicating otherwise. Nevertheless, the individual has recovered, and no other reports of illness have been registered since.

Homegrown Family Foods initiated the recall as soon as they were able to discover traces of the milk in the packaging for the product. This could be dangerous for individuals with serious sensitivity to milk and could cause potentially life-threatening reactions, if consumed.

Next Steps for Consumers

Consumers of the Shore Lunch Oven Style Breading and Batter Mix in the states of North Dakota, New York, Ohio, South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska have been warned to be cautious when purchasing any of the products from this lot. Anyone who has purchased the product and is lactose intolerant is advised to either throw it out or take it back to the store from which it was purchased for a full refund.

This recall by Homegrown Family Foods comes on the heels of a range of product recalls that have been initiated across the country in the last few weeks. Hence, consumers are advised to follow recall announcements on the USFDA website diligently to ensure good health and safety. The FDA provides follow-up instructions within recall announcements, which consumers should follow carefully.
