Grabbing a slice of pizza becomes more of an emotion as it is often consumed with friends, family, colleagues, school/college mates, on numerous occasions. It could be a housewarming party, a NFL, or NBA, or MLB match day, a get-together at home, and while going out for shopping, purchasing groceries, and more.

Amid intense competition among U.S. pizza chains, many brands coexist by targeting specific customer needs with value-driven offerings.

Costco’s Pizza Phenomenon

While some customers stick with their favorite brands, many are drawn to pizza chains offering fresh, affordable options.

Serving flavorsome pizzas under $10 and pizza slices under $2 makes even more sense for consumers who are busy shopping, loading groceries, have gone out to purchase electronics, or buying apparels, and more.

Costco pizza has apparently hit the sweet spot with its large, cheesy, loaded, and yummy pizzas that you can grab while shopping.

Why Shoppers Bite

Costco pizza has been able to chart its own territory amid stiff competition from leading pizza chain giants, including Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, Papa John’s, Marco’s Pizza, Sbarro, California Pizza Kitchen, and so on.

Given the strong backing of Costco Wholesale Corporation, the Washington-based member-only warehouse retailer, Costco pizza is able to convert a lot of pizza lovers who are there at the stores for shopping.

Over and above this, there seems to be a large population of people who are purposefully interested in cheesy and loaded pizza offerings by Costco pizza which are light on pockets too.

Cheese, Size, and Price

Being a staple product of Costco Corp-operated warehouse club, Costco pizza offers meat-heavy, cheesy, pepperoni pizzas starting $1.99 per slice. The large slices and big pizzas at lower prices are an instant hit among consumers who love to have thick-crust pizzas with generous toppings and a good amount of cheese.

A 16 to 18 inch loaded and cheesy pizza for below $10 is the highlight of Costco Wholesale stores as the brand continues to delight its customers with rich pizzas through its food court. Consumers have the option to grab hot and fresh pizzas from the food court which are baked, at the moment, and Kirkland Signature pizzas from the frozen section.

Ordering is available at food court kiosks, while frozen pizzas are also available for ordering online through Costco same-day delivery portal.

Hot & Fresh. Almost Always!

Costco’s freshly baked pizzas are popular for their blend of mozzarella and provolone, consistent sauce application, and medium-thick crust that delivers reliable flavor.

The price point of $1.99, or $2.99 a slice and $9.99 for the full-size 18-inch pizza makes it more amazing for customers as it feels like a good-quality subsidized purchase.

“We never shortcut the ingredients. Everything is measured to a standard. Every Costco pizza you get should have the same amount of sauce, cheese, and toppings,” Reader’s Digest reported citing a long-time Costco employee.

Value Driven Demand

For most shoppers at Costco, eating pizzas after topping the cart is one of the most exciting parts of the experience. Adults can have a moment with kids in the sit out, while teens always look forward to having those cheesy pizza slices on the drive to Costco outlets.

Post-pandemic and even in today’s time, people are more willing to purchase no-nonsense food items that are tasty, traditional and budget-friendly.

survey by McKinsey and Co shows that about 40% of conscious consumers report eating fresher, healthier foods, especially fresh produce, while 33% prefer food without artificial ingredients.

“Our latest US pulse survey finds that 74% of consumers are changing their shopping behavior to get more for their money, including buying food in bulk, adjusting the quantities purchased, and purchasing a less expensive brand or private label,” the survey added.

Costco Wholesale outlets are not only offering good quality pizzas, but they are fresh and less expensive too. The brand is able to strike a value proposition that works wonderfully for quick service restaurants (QSRs).

Consistency Every Slice

Consistency at every bite with appropriate use of technology, combined with the comfort of having savory and satisfying pizza is patently making the case stronger for Costco pizza. Moreover, the freshness of pizzas speaks for itself.

Given the high volume of shoppers and footfall at Costco outlets, the slice is always hot and fresh, making it more tempting to customers.

A Cult Favorite

The flavor and richness of Costco pizzas is widely-known across the industry with many consumers preferring to grab a hot slice, or whole pizza, immediately after finishing the shopping. Interestingly, a report from Eat This, Not That! has placed Costco pizzas above most of the legacy brands including the famous trio – Little Caesars, Pizza Hut and Domino’s Pizza.

Eating a pizza at Costco becomes more like a treat as consumers are utilising the 15-20-minute wait time to shop around the store, and grab a hot pizza by the time they finish paying the bills for the card.

Inside Costco’s Expansion

Costco stores have a curated mix of electronics, home appliances, apparel, groceries in bulk, and private-label products marketed under Kirkland Signature. Costco, the 42-year-old brand, started in Seattle, and has now expanded to a number of global locations. As of March 2026, Costco operates 924 warehouses across the world with the majority (nearly 68%) of stores, 634 to be exact, present in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Going forward, Costco has hinted towards its plan to open 28 new warehouses in the financial year 2026 during the post-earnings conference call after announcing the Q2 FY26 results earlier this month. Costco has 114 stores in Canada, 42 in Mexico, 37 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 20 in Korea, 15 in Australia, 14 in Taiwan, the company said in a press release.
