Primavera Nueva Inc. has voluntarily recalled select 4-count tamales after discovering the products may pose a potential health risk.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall was prompted by the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious illness in high-risk individuals. Consumers who purchased the affected products are advised to review the recall details and discard the items immediately.
Primavera Nueva Inc. Voluntarily Recalls Select 4-Count Tamales
Primavera Nueva Inc. is a food manufacturer based in Sonoma, California, known for producing tamales. The company specializes in ready-to-eat and specialty food products distributed throughout the West Coast.
On January 5, 2026, the company expanded its voluntary recall of certain lots of its 4-count tamales. The products contained a frozen ingredient labeled “Not Ready to Eat. Must Be Thoroughly Cooked Before Eating.” The FDA conducted an inspection of Primavera products on October 10, 2025, when it was identified that earlier production records did not consistently verify internal cooking temperatures.
This created a possibility of products being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The company said it corrected the issue on October 11, 2025, by strengthening its cooking-temperature monitoring and verification procedures. The primary recall was initiated on December 17, 2025, and a new variety has now been added.

Here is a list of all the 4-count tamales that are being affected by the recall, and were distributed in California and Nevada. These were produced between October 10, 2024, and October 10, 2025, and no other products by Primavera Nueva are affected. Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterial species that may lead to listeriosis infection, dangerous for certain groups. The manifestations can be observed between a few days and several weeks after the exposure, leading to fever and chills, severe headache, muscle aches, stiff neck, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
The most vulnerable individuals are pregnant women, the elderly (65+), babies, and those with compromised immunity. Listeriosis in pregnant women could result in miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth, or fatal infection in the babies.
