4 Rivers Smokehouse announced that it’s opening a location at 3200 S Orange Avenue in Orlando, previously the location of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers.

The 3,636 square-foot space would be the 14th restaurant for the brand in the state of Florida, including current locations in East Orlando, Winter Garden, and Winter Park.

Established in Winter Park in 2009 by Owner John Rivers, the name 4 Rivers represents the four members of his family, as well as a passage from Genesis that references the location where four rivers branch and flow from the Garden of Eden.

According to the company’s website, 4 Rivers Smokehouse started from humble beginnings in John’s garage where he prepared barbecue for schools, churches, charities, civic organization and others in need. Today, the 4 Rivers brand smokes more than 15,000 pounds of meat each week. Rivers authored his first cookbook in 2013 when he published The Southern Cowboy Cookbook.

Serving up 30-day-aged Smoked Angus Brisket, pulled pork and chicken, burnt ends, smoked turkey, St. Louis ribs, and more, the restaurant offers full service catering. Homestyle sides including fried pickles, collards, BBQ beans, and corn on the cob complete the meal.

Customers can also choose from a wide variety of sandwich options, sliders, quesadillas, and street tacos. And if they still have room, they can head over to the 4R Bakery and pick up some cookies, cupcakes or dessert bars.

4 Rivers brand sauces, dry rubs and syrup can be enjoyed at home as well, and are currently available for purchase in select Publix grocery stores.

The new location in the SoDo District is expected to open sometime in early 2022.
