Orlandoans who love authentic, fresh, farm-to-table, or in this case taco, cuisine—this one’s for you. Juliana and John Calloway will be expanding their restaurant Black Rooster Taqueria to Orlando’s Hourglass District later this year, per the company’s website.

The eatery offers a modern take on Mexican cuisine that seeks to celebrate the country’s culture and history. And part of that comes through in Black Rooster’s atmosphere. The eatery’s flagship location, which features a “colorful and authentic Day of the Dead themed atmosphere” makes use of refurbished furniture and handmade tables by Chef John. “The Calloways are excited to welcome you into an environment that evokes the memories of Mexico, South America, and their family,” says the eatery’s website.

A liquor license application obtained by What Now Orlando indicates Black Rooster is in the process of recreating that experience at 3097 Curry Ford Road in Orlando.

You can find asada, chicken tinga, achiote pork, and many other varieties of tacos on Black Rooster’s menu. The eatery offers a hearty array of starters, from guac to shrimp ceviche, as well as salads and bowls, the latter of which consist of slow-cooked pork or beef in broth. The tres leches cake on the dessert menu sounds pretty fantastic as well.

We were unable to reach co-owner Juliana Calloway at the time of publication, so the opening timeline remains unclear, although Black Rooster’s website indicates you’ll likely be enjoying these tacos in the Hourglass District sometime this fall.
