Fatburger, the burger shop that calls itself, “the last great hamburger stand”, is planning a location in Rockledge.
The restaurant was recently approved for a new construction permit with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for a site at 2055 Viera Boulevard, in the Lakeside section of The Crossings at Viera. An opening date has not been announced. Real estate site, 321 Coastal Living, reports that, when completed, the restaurant will be 1,800 square feet indoors, with an additional 400 to 600 square feet of outdoor patio space. In addition, Fatburger will create 20 to 30 new jobs in the community.
The restaurant is part of a multi-unit deal between franchisee Whole Factor and Fatburger to bring as many as 40 locations to Florida, reports Franchise Times.
An American institution, Fatburger was founded in 1947 by Lovie Yancy in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Yancy originally named the burger joint ‘Mr. Fatburger” as a tribute to her boyfriend, but dropped the “Mr.” a few years later. Almost eight decades later, there are 85 Fatburgers throughout the U.S., and more than 200 locations worldwide.
Fatburger’s popularity lies in its promise to serving burgers made from fresh, never frozen beef patties, hand pressed on the griddle. In addition, it hand batters its onion rings and uses real scooped ice cream in its milkshakes.
