Fragaria, the colorful little truck offering New Zealand-style ice cream, is opening its first brick and mortar location.

The ice cream shop will open at 110 N. Orlando Avenue in Maitland. The news was posted on Fragaria’s Instagram account, with a warm thank you to ice cream fans: “Our love + support got us here, and soon we’ll finally be able to welcome you into our first permanent home”.

According to owner, Laura Pichardo, there’s no firm opening date, though they’re targeting the end of 2025.

Pichardo first started making ice creams at home, testing recipes on friends and family. The goal was to make a delicious, creamy, plant-based ice cream with only wholesome ingredients.

Fragaria based her recipes on the New Zealand style ice cream — a frozen dessert made by blending premium vanilla ice cream with real fruit, using a special machine to produce an airy, velvety texture.

Pichardo imported one of those special machines from New Zealand. She then perfected the recipes, using only real fruit, cocoa butter, sunflower butter, and other wholesome ingredients. The result is a light, creamy treat in fresh fruit flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, and mixed berry. Fragaria also sells traditional ice cream in Oreo cookies and cream, vanilla, and chocolate — all plant-based.

The shop will also offer toppings, ice cream combos, cones, and more.
