Jersey Mike’s, the sub shop with Jersey Shore roots, is opening a Clermont sub shop.

CFL Subs US27 North, LLC filed permit applications with the Florida Board of Business and Professional Regulation to open a fast casual restaurant at 2430 U.S. Highway 27, Suite 320No opening date has been announced.

Though Jersey Mike’s is a fast growing sandwich chain that’s spreading across the country, it’s very much a Jersey institution. The original opened in 1956 directly on the famed Jersey Shore and was called Mike’s Subs. When Peter Cancro purchased the shop in 1975 at the age of 17, he renamed it Jersey Mike’s in honor of its founder. The shop’s beach location was one reason for its success with hungry beachgoers clamoring to grab a sub for their beachside picnics.

In 1987, Cancro started franchising Jersey Subs with the idea that everyone would want a taste of the delicious sandwiches made with meats and cheeses sliced on-premises, using bread baked daily. Cancro was right and today, there are more than 3,000 locations operating and plans for more on the way.

Customers love Jersey Mike’s for its subs like the #13 Original Italian and the #7 turkey and provolone, prepared the signature “Mike’s Way” with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, a signature red wine vinegar/olive oil blend, and spices.
