The classic Winter Park coffee shop Kos will soon be expanding to a new location at 449 South Orlando Ave in Maitland, according to a recent filing with the State of Florida. The store will be located at the Shoppes at Maitland shopping center, alongside eateries such as Einstein Bros Bagels and Firehouse Subs.
Naming itself after the Norwegian word “Koselig”, which approximately translates to “coziness”, Kos defines itself as a “social enterprise coffee shop” and “micro roastery”, led by progressive principles such as making specialty coffee more approachable, sourcing coffee transparently, paying above-average wages to its partnered coffee farmers, and donating 10% of all profits to charities and non-profits.
“This location will be larger and we will have our roasting on-site,” Owner Russell Thomas Bruguiere tells What Now Orlando. “All of the coffee that we serve will be roasted here.”
When asked if the coffee shop’s concept will change with the new location, Mr. Bruguiere says “Yes and no—we’re still going to be leading with transparency-drive, single-producer coffees. However, we’re going to have a food program and a natural wine program.”
The food program, Mr. Bruguiere explains, will serve “traditional, high-end breakfast food, like avocado toast, breakfast sandwiches, norwegian waffles, and a light lunch menu.”
Apart from selling coffee in-house and to-go, sourced from Colombia and Guatemala, Kos also sells wines, candles, and other branded merchandise, along with an offering of subscriptions to keep customers supplied with Kos’s essential products.
The upcoming Maitland location is aiming to be up and running by mid-November.
