Mecatos Bakery & Cafe, the Locally-born Colombian bakery that offers coffees, pastries, and more is opening a location in Winter Park.
The restaurant is moving into the former home of The Coop at 610 W. Morse Boulevard. According to a property listing, the restaurant is about 4,900 square feet, with an additional 1,200 square feet of patio space with spaces for 55 cars and a pick-up window. The restaurant is expected to open some time in 2026.
The Orlando Business Journal reports that about $450,000 is being invested into renovations for the project. The goal is to transform this location into the flagship of the Mecatos chain, and to incorporate some new items and features such as a weekend brunch.
Mecatos was founded in 2015 by Edwin Lurduy to share the food and culture of his Colombian roots with Orlando. The restaurant expanded, and now has nine locations throughout Central Florida. The Winter Park restaurant will be the 10th location for the rising brand.
The restaurant offers a host of Colombian favorites such as pan de bono (cheese bread), bunuelos (fried cheese bread), empanadas, tequenos, and more. The restaurant also specializes in Colombian coffees and offers its own branded Colombian coffees in single origins, blends, and premium beans.
