Coyoacan Cocina and Tequila is coming to the greater Orlando area by way of restaurateur Henry Galvis. In a phone conversation with What Now on Friday, Galvis confirmed that the concept will appear in the former Lale Turkish restaurant at 7025 Co Road.
The central theme of the concept comes from its name: Coyoacan, which is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Mexico City. The fame of this neighborhood emanates from Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera, who were residents there. The famed artists have been memorialized in the city with an art museum, Galvis shared. He intends for Coyoacan to be a homage to the neighborhood, and he will hang artwork from Khalo and Rivera on the walls.
The food will also honor the legacy of Coyoacan, as Galvis has hired a chef who grew up and lived in the neighborhood.
Galvis himself is experienced in the industry. Over 25 years ago, Galvis opened his first restaurant in Daytona Beach called Maria Bonita, and since then has established numerous eateries between the Orlando area and Daytona Beach. The idea for Coyoacan sparked for Galvis when he noticed the restaurant space become available, and since then he has been working to bring Lake Mary a genuine Coyoacan experience.
With a final few hoops to jump through, Galvis anticipates opening in three to four weeks.
