Panda Express, the fast-casual chain that specializes in fresh Chinese favorites, is set to open a new restaurant in Leesburg.

Panda Express, Inc. filed permit applications with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for Panda Express #3990, to be located at 10849 US Highway 441 in Leesburg. Currently, no opening date has been announced. A story in Lake and Sumter Style shows construction crews on-site, working on the new restaurant’s foundation.

Panda Express started in 1983 in Glendale, California as a way to serve a faster, more casual menu of Chinese food favorites than Andrew Cherng‘s sit-down restaurant, Panda Inn. The chain grew quickly, thanks to its concept of providing fresh Chinese favorites such as orange chicken, fried rice, and chow mein. The chain now has more than 2,500 locations both in the U.S. and internationally.

With all that growth, Panda Express remains a family-owned business, with Andrew Cherng’s children still solidly involved in the company’s operations.

The company is also known for treating its employees and community partners with dignity. It’s company mission is, “Delivering exceptional Asian dining experiences by building an organization where people are inspired to better their lives,” according to it parent, Panda Restaurant Group. Panda Express also gives back through Panda Cares Scholars Program, which provides college scholarships to high performing high school students.
