According to recent reporting in OBJ, the popular Bakery 1908 on Colonial Drive will be expanding near Disney Springs.

The new restaurant will open in late December at 12399 State Road 535, within a 6,000-square-foot commercial space. The location will put the establishment in optimal conditions, placing itself near 32 hotels with about 5 million guests per year.

“At this location, we will do a full dumpling bar plus bento boxes,” said John Zhao, founder of YH Restaurant Group, which owns Bakery 1908. “At our Colonial Drive location, the kitchen is small so we can’t do a lot with hot food. At the new one, the kitchen is much bigger, so we can do more, including authentic ramen, Vietnamese and Hong Kong noodle dishes, and more.”

A well-rooted and busy group, the Tampa-based YH Restaurant Group has 21 restaurants and food service establishments under eight brands.

“I always wanted to do a bakery,” Zhao said to OBJ. “When I first moved to Florida, I couldn’t find any Asian bakeries, so whenever I traveled to bigger cities, I brought back Asian bakery buns and pastries for my family and friends.”

“The Korean bakeries are more European. My bakery is focused on buns,” said Zhao. “There is a wide range of savory and sweet buns from Hong Kong, Taiwanese and broader Chinese baking traditions.”
