According to a recent report in Bungalower, Winter Park-based Gentry’s BBQ has been acquired by Denver-based Proud Souls Barbecue and Provisions. The brand specializes in equipment needed for smoking, grilling, searing, and roasting as well as top-brand cookers, accessories, fuels, spices, sauces, and meats.

“Proud Souls will be hosting BBQ classes led by champion pitmasters at the new Winter Park location as well as courses ranging from the basics of BBQ to advanced outdoor cooking techniques,” the report adds.

Following up on the original reporting, What Now Orlando had brief calls with founder Tony Roberts and Marketing Director Richard Fergola to get more on the concept and its imminent expansion.

“Our two original stores are in Colorado — Denver and Littleton. Last year, we opened in Kansas City and just now acquired Gentry’s in Winter Park,” said Fergola. “We’re always looking to continue growing.”

While no details have yet been set on the brand’s expansion plans, both Fergola and Roberts are thrilled about the upcoming Jan. 20 premiere event.

“We’ll be bringing BBQ Grand champions and individuals featured on the Food Network,” Roberts enthused.

“It’ll be a big barbecue extravaganza,” added Fergola. “We’ll be smoking a whole hog!”
