The popular central Florida food truck Over Rice will soon be opening its first brick-and-mortar location at 1084 Lee Rd in Orlando, according to a recent Facebook post from the restaurant’s official page.
Founded by co-owners Joel & Mayra Paoner in 2011, the food truck and soon-to-be restaurant specializes in traditional Filipino and Hawaiian cuisine, featuring two principal dishes. The Filipino lunch plate includes jasmine rice, pancit, lumpia shanghai and the option of pork or chicken to top off. The Hawaiian dish is jasmine rice and ona mac, also with the options to add pork and chicken.
Co-owner Mayra Paoner tells What Now Orlando that the brick-and-mortar location will be adding extra Filipino and Hawaiian offerings such as turon, a banana-based Filipino dessert, and loco moco, a meat-based Hawaiian staple. The restaurant will be 1200 square feet and indoor-seating only.
Joel Paoner believes that now is a great time to open a Hawaiian & Filipino restaurant considering that the people of Central Florida have become more familiar with the cuisine and culture. The duo is looking forward to sharing more of the two cultural and culinary heritages and intend to be up and running by the end of November.
