Winter garden’s Horizon West will soon have a new place for quality sushi when Sushi Kindai opens.

The restaurant, located at 8810 Seidel Road, Suite 130 at the Shoppes of Lakeview, should open September or October 2026, according to owner, James Gao, who tells What Now Orlando that buildout has just begun.

Gao says the goal of Sushi Kindai is to introduce something “fresh and authentic to the community,” adding that he’s confident that the community will love the food. Gao said he chose to open in Horizon West because he was drawn to its strong sense of community and small town charm. “Horizon West offers a fresh vision of what a lifestyle community can be — welcoming residents from around the world who come for its proximity to major entertainment centers, diverse services, and healthy living environment. We’re excited to become part of this growing neighborhood and look forward to serving the community in the tastiest ways possible.”

The restaurant is named for the Japanese word “kindai”, which means “contemporary”. As such, the restaurant will offer Japanese fusion-style cuisine with modern takes on traditional flavors, using high-quality ingredients. The menu will include sushi, sashimi, signature maki rolls, hibachi bento boxes, and a selection of creative appetizers.

The restaurant’s bar menu will include a comprehensive list of Japanese sake, soju, beer, and wine. In addition, the full bar will feature cocktails crafted with a Japanese twist.

When it opens, Sushi Kindai will serve both lunch and dinner.
