Texas-based Whataburger is making plans to reenter the Orlando market.

The chain was last seen in Orlando nearly two decades ago, with Whataburger Restaurants LP closing all of its 14 Central Florida restaurants in May 2009. Now, the burger spot is making a comeback in the region.

The restaurant has filed permits with Orange County to open a restaurant at 12305 E. Colonial Drive, according to the Orlando Business Journal. No opening date has been set.

Founded in August 1950 by Harmon Dobson, the Texas-based burger company is known for its burgers, served on custom five-inch buns. The restaurant, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is easily identified by its orange and white A-frame buildings, has more than 1,000 locations and is growing.

Menu favorites include the Whataburger, patty melts, chicken sandwiches, and salads. Known for its oversized burgers, Whataburger’s most indulgent sandwich has to be the Southern Bacon Double Burger, made with two beef patties, crispy bacon, and the works. The company offers a commitment to freshness, with a promise to make evert burger to order, using high-quality ingredients.

For its commitment to value, freshness, and customer service, Whataburger was named one of the top fast food burgers by Thrillist in 2022.
