Texas favorite Whataburger is planning a major central Florida expansion, according to recent reporting in OBJ.
After closing its locations on University Boulevard in Winter Park, Commodity Circle in southwest Orlando, East Colonial near Bithlo and Wickham Road in Melbourne, the brand is returning to the area with new motivation.
“Those are some of the highest openings the brand ever had, with phenomenal first weeks, first months, sales records,” said CEO Ed Nelson to Tampa Business Journal.
Reportedly, the chain hasn’t signed its first lease yet, and Nelson said it’s too soon to say how many locations Central Florida can support.
“A medium-sized Whataburger is 3,300 square feet — digital-only locations are smaller — and occupies a traditional outparcel site of anywhere from 1 to 1.3 acres,” the OBJ adds.
Addresses and timeframes to come.
