Personal finance website WalletHub recently shared insights on the best cities to rent across the U.S. in 2025. The study compared 182 U.S. cities using 21 metrics related to quality of life and rental market affordability. Out of these, four Phoenix metro cities were placed among the top ten.

WalletHub’s latest study compared 182 U.S. cities to identify the best places to rent in 2025. Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert, and Peoria, all part of the Phoenix metro are ranked among the top 10 cities for renters
WalletHub’s rankings considered factors like changes in rent over time, cost of living, job availability, and the percentage of renters.
Other metrics considered by WalletHub were city safety, rental vacancy rate, weather, and the difference between rental rates and mortgage payments across the cities.
Scottsdale Leads the List
Among the four Phoenix-area cities on WalletHub’s list, Scottsdale ranked the highest. Additionally, it was the runner-up in the entire list of 182 U.S. cities that are ideal to rent this year.
Scottsdale ranked 24th for rental affordability and 1st for quality of life, earning it the No. 2 spot overall. WalletHub offered it a total score of 65.97, second only to Overland Park, which got 66.93.
WalletHub credited Scottsdale’s strong job market, traffic conditions, and infrastructure for its high score. Phoenix metro city has the fourth-best weather among the selected 182 cities. It was also ranked second due to its sixth-best recreation options.
According to WalletHub, Scottsdale residents spend about 21% of their annual income on rent. The study also notes that Scottsdale homes average 2,331 square feet, among the largest in the country.
