YC’s Mongolian Grill, once a Scottsdale staple for build-your-own stir fry, closed the doors to its spot on East Talking Stick Way last October, after thirty years of service. According to co-owner Geoff Stanisic, the location was simply too inconvenient for Scottsdale residents to keep it afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The closing, however, didn’t stop Scottsdale’s stir-fry fanatics from getting their fix. “Currently, our Scottsdale customers are driving thirty or more miles to one of our other locations,” Geoff said, referring to the restaurant’s two other spots in Tempe and Gilbert.

Given YC’s commitment to fresh vegetables, wild-caught fish, and lean beef (not to mention, their lo mein noodles brought in from LA’s Chinatown), I can’t blame anyone for making the trek, but soon Scottsdale’s loyalists won’t have to drive much further than their backyards to fill up on rice and noodle bowls.

YC Mongolian Grill will reopen in Scottsdale this October, at 14850 North 87th Street — no more than a five-minute drive from the surrounding neighborhoods. “We’re excited to regrow,” Geoff said. “We couldn’t have done it without the loyalty of our customers.”
