After serving the community for the past 17 years, Burrito Shack at 5663 S Power Road has been forced to close its doors and is looking to move to a new location.
The restaurant was recently hit with a cease and desist order to shut down immediately after an inspection declared the property was outdated and the building was not up to minimum requirements, according to a recently launched GoFundMe. Company owners Jonny Grafting and Zep Lucero hope to raise around $10,000 so the restaurant can relocate and continue to serve the community. While the campaign was recently launched, the co-owners have already raised around $4,000 for the relocation.
“Over the past few years, we have asked for repairs to be done, but Lanord has not yet been repaired,” according to the GoFundMe. “Unfortunately, these problems have hurt our ability to continue to serve our great community of burrito shack patrons for over 17 years. Due to these reasons, we cannot operate at the facility and have no timeframe for when this would be operable, as it would take multiple months for the building to be operational.”
It’s unclear where the new location will land, but the owners hope to reopen in a new space by mid-Spring 2024. In addition to using the funds to help open the new location, Grafting and Lucero hope to use the new space to add more items to the menu, keep the restaurant open later, and add new equipment and seating.
“As much as we loved the character the building gave the burrito shack, we do not own the building,” according to the GoFundMe. “This forces us to move to another location, and this is where your help comes in. We would use these funds to get into another location and get Burrito Shack up and running once again by mid-spring, and this help would help us gain capital to get started again, as well as outstanding debt with no income coming in. With the new location, we plan to still serve our top-quality products to you all, as well as our great customer service.”
