Cheba Hut, the “toasted” sandwich restaurant that’s known for its high-quality meals with cheeky names and “munchies”, is expanding its presence in the greater Phoenix area.
The fast-casual restaurant is opening a 3,100 square foot spot at 2822 N. 32nd Street in Arcadia by late spring of 2026. According to Justin Lemos, construction should be finished by May, with the restaurant opening shortly after. Additionally, a Scottsdale Road location should open a few months after. Lemos tells What Now Phoenix that his team, which already own three other Cheba Huts, was searching for the perfect locations for expansion opportunities: “This has been a long time coming.”
The locally-grown Cheba Hut was founded in 1998 by Scott Jennings, who opened the first sandwich shop near Arizona State University. Jennings wanted to create a restaurant that combined a fun counter-culture theme with quality items and the restaurant became a hit with people who came for the stoner theme but returned for the taste. Today, there are more than 75 locations across multiple states, with plans to expand to 200 stores by 2030.
Cheba Hut is well-loved for its toasted subs, starting with its proprietary Parisian bread that’s hand-rolled, hand-scored, and baked specifically for the restaurants. Subs are named after various marijuana strands and terms such as the “Dank” with Genoa salami, pepperoni, marinara, provolone cheese, and the restaurant’s own shake parmesan seasoning; and the vegan-friendly “Magic Mushroom” with Portobello, teriyaki, green bell pepper, pineapple, pepper jack, spring mix, tomato, onion, pickle, cucumber, black olive, shake, and house dressing. “Munchies” include brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and Col Ranch Doritos “Not’Chos”.
Unlike many fast casual restaurants, most Cheba Hut locations also offer full bar service, making it a favorite for a casual gathering with friends.
