A vintage home in Gilbert’s Heritage District will soon transform into a gorgeous gathering place when Clare House Social opens later this year at 309 N. Gilbert Road.

Owner Nathan Ares (Ares Collective) tells What Now Phoenix that the plan is to merge both the cottage (previously the home of Bergies Coffee Roast House) and his Prep & Pastry spot next door into one flowing concept.  “We’re keeping Clare House and redoing it, with construction adding about an additional 1,400 square feet.” The space will include a large pergola, TVs for watching sporting events, and greenery. “We’re already buying the plants so we can cultivate and grow them,” said Ares, adding that once the final permitting is secured, construction should go rather quickly, with an anticipated summer opening date.

Ares added that he’s happy to invest in Gilbert because he sees growth and promise in the neighborhood. “Tucson has been amazing, but I think it’s time to expand my horizons. I’m excited for this project.”

Ares describes Clare House Social as a “beautiful gathering yard” with an outdoor bar, food, and games. “We’re trying to get away from the traditional beer garden, and want it to be more of a space where you can have great food and great ambiance.”  The restaurateur is taking inspiration from other beautiful spaces in major cities, including London’s the Prince, which offers everything from brunch to late-night drinks in a lush indoor/outdoor setting.

Ares’s vision is to create a place where people can slow down and really enjoy their food and drink — and each other. “Nowadays, everyone is in a rush. If you’re spending money, you want something that’s an experience. In my personal mind, people want the convenience of moving around with family and friends.  Clare House Social is going to be fun.”
