A new southern comfort food concept dubbed Da Kitchin Grill is set to open at 4902 E Warner Rd in Phoenix sometime next year, according to owner Charles Stewart.
Stewart, who formerly served as a managing partner of Biscuits on E Chandler Blvd and Cactus Jack’s in Ahwatukee, tells What Now Phoenix that he plans on opening three more Da Kitchin Grill outposts.
Despite having built the Chandler Blvd Biscuits from the ground up, Stewart has since walked away from the business to launch this new chapter in his culinary journey, and says that customers can expect “the same type of flavor, the same type of service, [and] the same type of quality that I put in my food at Da Kitchin Grill, but we’re doing dinners and only breakfast on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday,” as opposed to the breakfast-centric menu that Biscuits is known for.
Inspired in part by the COVID-19 pandemic and society’s shift “back to necessities” and “traditional wholesome values,” Da Kitchin Grill has its sights set on offering “Quality taste and excellent service combined with a casual consumer convenience at a competitive affordable price,” Stewart writes on the restaurant’s website.
Simply put, it’s “traditional homestyle cooking,” with a menu featuring comfort food staples such as Hush Puppies, Smothered Steak & Gravy, Kitchin Style Meatloaf, Cajun Fondue, and Shrimp & Grits.
Ultimately, Stewart dreams of one day opening a Da Kitchen Grill near Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.
“I’ve raised all my kids at Disneyland,” says Stewart. “I found out recently – now that all my kids are grown – that I truly love that place. I’ll go by myself. It’s my favorite place on earth.”
