Fat Willy’s Family Sports Grill, specializing in comfort food and craft beer, is in the works of opening a location in Gilbert, hot on the heels of their upcoming location heading to Cave Creek on October 4, according to a Facebook post on the company’s page.
Recent reporting from Mouth By Southwest states the Gilbert location will take over for the former Teakwoods Tavern & Grill at 151 E Williams Field Road, marking their first storefront within that community.
According to the website, Fat Willy’s, founded by Chris Gelenites, who unfortunately passed 2 1/2 years ago, is a “casually cool neighborhood restaurant and bar that is a familiar place to get together and watch the game.”
Each of the locations aims to “feature a warm, upbeat surrounding, high definition plasma televisions and a local flair.”
The menu offers an array of comfort foods, from burgers and pizza to meatloaf and spaghetti and meatballs. The craft beer served also keeps a local focus while offering selections from around the country, with the website stating it “highlights the best of Arizona and the industry’s best craft beers.”
No opening date for the Gilbert store has yet been announced, and Teakwoods Tavern only recently closed down. The Cave Creek location opening in October will be at 34406 N Black Mountain Pkwy.
Update: A previous version of this post failed to note the passing of Chris Gelenites. It has since been updated to include that information.
