Handel’s Ice Cream is churning up new locations in the Valley. The homemade ice cream shop is taking over the former Creamistry in front of the splash pad at Park West in Peoria, according to a building permit obtained through public records.
Joe Maher, who will own and operate this new location, tells What Now Phoenix that he anticipates an opening in Q1 of 2023. This will be his second Handel’s location, after opening his first in Surprise a couple years ago.
Handel’s originated in 1945 out of Youngstown, Ohio, where a woman named Alice Handel used fresh fruit from her own backyard, as well as her own recipes, to create ice cream that quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Today, all Handel’s locations uphold the same standard of quality and freshness, using Alice’s recipes to make more than 100 ice cream flavors in store every day.
From traditional flavors like Butter Pecan and Chunky Chocolate Chip, to something little different such as Cinnamon Roll or Lemon Meringue Pie, there is always something new to try every time you visit Handel’s. Stores carry over 45 flavors of ice cream, as well as sorbets, sherbets, and ices.
When this new Park West location opens, it will be the fifth location in the Valley. In addition to Surprise, there are locations in Gilbert and Scottsdale. Maher adds that even more locations are to come over the next five years.
