Among the many shops and eateries moving to Jackrabbit Ranch Marketplace, Buckeye’s new ground-up retail development, will be an old classic. The AZ-staple, Macayo’s Mexican Food, will build a ground-up location in Buckeye for the first time in over a decade.

“We’re celebrating our 75th anniversary this September,” Ashley Negron, Director of Brand Marketing at Kind Hospitality, told What Now Phoenix, “this will be the first brand new build since 2006.” Negron noted the eatery has expanded since 2006, but the Jackrabbit Ranch location will be the first new ground-up brick-and-mortar. “It will have that same comfortable Macayco’s feel that guests have come to know and love,” Negron said.

If you’re a tried and true Arizonan, you’ve probably heard of Macayo’s,’ but if not, here are the highlights. The eatery, which Woody and Victoria Johnson first opened in 1946 under the name Woody’s El Nido, aims to share a legacy of quality food, family atmosphere, and tradition. “We believe in keeping the tradition alive through hospitality, quality ingredients and loyalty to our signature family recipes,” says the company’s website.

Negron says the newest Macayo’s should be open and bringing you some of that great tradition by Fall of 2022.
