After opening in 11 different states and three different countries, Matcha Cafe Maiko is finally setting up an Arizona storefront at the Tempe Submarket on 920 E University Drive.

According to the intel, the lease for this location starts in October 2021 and runs for five years from there. The unit is expected to have 1,295 square feet of space.

Matcha Cafe Maiko originally opened in Honolulu, Hawaii. The tea itself is imported straight out of Uji, Japan, which is in the southern portion of Kyoto.

The matcha itself comes from Harima Garden, which has been around since 1858.

According to the website, “Green tea was born in Uji, Kyoto where natural, healthy, high grade matcha was used. The soil was rich with nutrition and the weather conditions were very good, thus the area was well-suited for making tea.”

Outside of just tea, Matcha Cafe Maiko also serves shaved ice, frappes, and even soft serve and parfaits. The menu varies based on the store, so a look through their online menu may not always be accurate depending on the location.
