Modern Grind Coffee, a drive-thru coffee and health drink shop offering fresh, high-quality products for the daily grind, is getting ready to open at least one new location in the Valley later this year.
Currently, owner Daphnie Kelly has one location of her beloved coffee shop, in Avondale at 13044 W Rancho Sante Fe Boulevard, but that’s about to change this year. Kelly tells the Phoenix Business Journal that she plans to open another shop in the West Valley within a year and is starting to look into a pair of undisclosed locations. The business owner is negotiating with one potential site and scouting another elsewhere in Phoenix. When these locations open, customers can expect a robust menu of drinks and food, including coffee, tea, fruit smoothies, energy drinks, burritos, sandwiches, bagels, muffins, and protein balls.
Modern Grind Coffee was founded by Kelly in 2017 with a unique fundraising model. She created this business to generate funds while supporting local schools and teachers. Students could sell bags of coffee and earn a portion of the sales, helping to boost both the business and local education. Her vision was to create a coffee shop offering high-quality, flavorful beverages sourced locally to support small businesses. Along with exceptional coffee, Kelly is passionate about giving back to the community, mainly supporting youth, teachers, first responders, and military heroes through discounts and fundraising efforts.

Kelly, a former elementary school teacher, aims to create employment opportunities and foster the growth of local baristas. With a commitment to community engagement and support for local businesses, Modern Grind strives to influence its customers and the surrounding area positively. Another critical factor for the company is sourcing local ingredients. Kelly says roughly 90% of the ingredients used are sourced locally and from female vendors.
