Pepper Lunch, a Japanese “fast-steak” chain, is opening in Arizona for the first time. Located at the brand-new University Gateway Building, the grand opening celebrations will be held on September 20.

Founded in 1994 by Kunio Ichinose, the chain is known for its distinctive do-it-yourself dining experience. Guests cook their own steak on the brand’s patented hot metal plates.

Jake Ireland, co-owner and operator of the Pepper Lunch ASU location, shared, “Our entire team is thrilled to add Pepper Lunch to students’ dining options, and with a deep experience developing retail property in the ASU area, we know they are going to love this unique and delicious campus addition. We hope everyone will join us for a taste of something new and delicious come September 20.”

The ASU location will serve Pepper Lunch favorites like Sizzling Curry Rice and Teriyaki dishes. In addition, the restaurant also offers a variety of pastas, like Aglio Olio Teppan Pasta, featuring light oil and chili flakes, and Cream Teppan Pasta, with mushrooms and cream sauce over pasta.

Talking more about the launch, Troy Hooper, CEO of Pepper Lunch North America, said, “Opening our first Arizona restaurant marks a significant milestone in our journey over the past 24 months.”

He added, “With a fresh restaurant design, an upgraded menu, innovative technology enhancing the guest experience, and a strong team of experienced franchisees, we are set for an exciting and transformative year for Pepper Lunch in 2025.”

Exclusive Opening Day offers

To mark the opening, Pepper Lunch is offering a three-day promotion. The restaurant is offering a free signature Beef Pepper Rice bowl for the first 100 guests each day during the grand opening weekend. The offer will run from September 20 through September 22.

The chain’s signature Beef Pepper Rice combines tender beef, fragrant rice, and a pepper sauce served sizzling hot.

Additionally, during the three-day grand opening weekend, all guests will also receive a special bounce-back offer for a buy-one-get-one Beef Pepper Rice on their next visit to the restaurant.

“4 days to go until the sizzle hits ASU. From Sept 20–22, we’re celebrating BIG at our Grand Opening: First 100 guests = FREE Beef Pepper Rice, Everyone else gets a BOGO bounce-back after taking our survey,” announced Pepper Lunch through an social media post.

The restaurant will open in the University Gateway Building, next to the Gammage Light Rail stop and Performing Arts Center. This prime location offers easy access with a 1,200-space parking garage and nearby dorms, hotels, offices, and shops, which will bring steady Arizona foot traffic to its DIY Teppanyaki experience.
