Award-winning Novel Ice Cream is opening yet another scoop shop — this time in Tempe.
The locally-grown favorite for ice cream will open at 110 E 5th Street in the historic Harry Walker House (former House of Tricks) near Tempe City Hall, according to Downtown Tempe’s official website. The shop is expected to open spring 2026.
Novel’s new Tempe home has an interesting story attached to it. The City of Tempe  calls the Harry Walker House one of the last examples of West Tempe’s Neo-Colonial homes. Built in 1903, the home, listed in the National Historic Register, belonged to Harry Walker, groundskeeper for the Tempe Normal School during the first decade of the twentieth century before becoming an engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad in Northern Arizona.
Named the top pick in 100 Best Ice Cream Shops in the U.S. by Yelp, Novel Ice Cream will serve its small-batch, handcrafted ice creams in eight core flavors (Bourbon Toffee Caramel Crunch, Cookie Monster, Madagascar Vanilla, Chocolate, Straight Up Strawberry, Butter Pecan, Honey Lavender, and PB Wasted), alonw with four rotating flavors.
Additives or stabilizers are never added to the ice creams, and each flavor has its unique recipe, created and made by dedicated ice cream chefs. Enjoy your ice cream in a cup, cone, float, or stuffed into a doughnut.
The Tempe location will be the fourth location for Novel, led by Shawn Allard. Novel also owns and operates its own ice cream truck.
