A liquor license has been filed for a concept called Off the Record heading for 1025 N 2nd Street.
The property itself has been around for years and is known as the Historic Knipe House that was originally built in 1909 and almost burnt to a crisp in 2010.
Applicants for the liquor license include Esther Noh and TJ Culp, who owns the Montecito Bottle Shop and the adjacent Restaurant Progress.
The website for Restaurant Progress states TJ opened shop at the age of 25 after finding his passion for cooking by staring into the open kitchens of some high-end west coast restaurants.
Once his passion was lit, he “spent years trying to escape in search of ‘better and cooler’ places and a home to a culinary experience that would rival any other city in this country.”
A sketch included with the license application shows that the entire restaurant will cover 3,100 square feet of space, with 1,200 square feet of that belonging to a patio out front. The indoor area also shows a space for a bakery display, although it is unclear at this time what else will be served on the menu.
What Now Phoenix reached out to both Noh and Culp for comment and expected open date, but neither were available for more information on Monday.
