Salt & Straw, the beloved Portland-based ice cream maker renowned for its delightfully innovative flavors, is set to open a new location in Gilbert.

The company’s newest site is set to join the Epicenter, a new residential and retail destination in the heart of Agritopia, the highly regarded vertical mixed-use development that redefines the community of Gilbert, according to a press release. The ice cream shop’s arrival at Epicenter is a culmination of years of searching for the perfect location in Phoenix by co-founders Kim and Tyler Malek. The new Salt & Straw is set to open its doors in Summer 2024.

“We’ve been looking for the perfect place in Phoenix for over five years and finally found it in Epicenter at Agritopia—a community that pioneered the farm-to-table movement and is rooted so deeply in building a gathering space centered on connection,” co-founder Kim Malek said in a press release. “This felt serendipitous to us, and we can’t wait to join the neighborhood.”

This much-anticipated opening marks a significant milestone in Epicenter’s ongoing commitment to enriching the lifestyle and retail experience for residents and visitors alike. With the arrival of Salt & Straw, Epicenter proudly reached a significant achievement of being 100% leased, making it a fully realized vision of community and commerce. Salt & Straw epitomizes the spirit of community engagement and collaboration. This ethos aligns seamlessly with the Johnston family’s vision for Epicenter and Agritopia, emphasizing a community-centric approach that fosters connections and celebrates local craftsmanship.

“We are very excited to welcome Salt & Straw to the Epicenter family,” William Johnston, CEO of Johnston & Co., said in a press release. “In addition to making some of the most elevated ice cream in the country, Salt & Straw is a beacon of community and creativity, which aligns perfectly with the spirit of Epicenter. Their dedication to crafting unique, locally-inspired flavors with a great story not only elevates our culinary landscape but also reinforces our dedication to creating spaces where people can come together and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.”

Epicenter and Salt & Straw look forward to welcoming locals and visitors to experience the joy and connection that comes with sharing a scoop of extraordinary ice cream. In addition to their classic flavors, Salt & Straw will also bring their famous monthly rotating flavor menu to their Gilbert location. Stay tuned for more details on the grand opening date.
