Vine Tavern & Eatery, an Irish-American bar and restaurant with locations by ASU and in south Tempe, is possibly coming to Ahwatukee. What Now Phoenix has obtained real estate intel indicating that Vine Tavern & Eatery will take over a 3,000 square-foot restaurant space at 3820 E. Ray Road.
Additionally, the restaurant applied for a liquor license at this address in early May. Based on these sources, it’s likely that Vine Tavern & Eatery could be opening an Ahwatukee location later this year if these plans come to fruition. Representatives for Vine Tavern & Eatery declined to comment.
The restaurant originated in downtown Iowa City in 1970, when it was then known as The Vine. It started out as an Irish pub that served only cocktails and beer. Its current owner acquired the business and began serving food in 1983.
The growing menu was such a hit that they eventually installed a full-service kitchen and by 1986, the restaurant’s name was officially changed to The Vine Tavern & Eatery. This was around the same time that the business established itself in Tempe.
With burgers, wings, and plenty of drinks, Vine Tavern & Eatery naturally became a popular haunt for ASU students and locals alike. We’re sure that Vine Tavern & Eatery would be a welcome addition to Ahwatukee, whose residents would have their favorite ASU sports bar in their own neighborhood.
