San Antonio’s Far North Side has emerged as a preferred area of prospective homeowners in recent years. Based on its popularity, several real estate developers have come up with a slew of projects in the region. The latest addition to this list is Borgfeld Crossing, a multimillion-dollar retail project.

Highlights

  • A new retail center, Borgfeld Crossing, will soon be developed at 1611 E. Borgfeld Drive.
  • San Antonio’s Birnbaum Property Company is leading the $2.2 million project.
  • The construction of the retail site spread over an approximate 11,000 sq. ft. area could be completed on October 15, 2026.

San Antonio is Set to Welcome a New Retail Hub

Birnbaum Property Company, a San Antonio-based real estate firm, has brought Borgfeld Crossing, a new retail project, to the Far North Side. Located at 1611 E. Borgfeld Drive, the project site is at the intersection of Borgfeld Drive & Highland Crest. The property is also near the Canyon Springs Golf Club and the San Antonio United Soccer Club.

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing, the firm has collaborated with a local design firm for the project. The filing further demonstrates that investors have agreed to put about $2.2 million into the retail site.

Covering an approximate 11,000 sq. ft. area, Borgfeld Crossing is about the size of four standard tennis courts placed together.

Timeline of the New Far North Side Project

The construction of the newest retail plaza in San Antonio will begin in October 2025. Borgfeld Crossing’s developers project it to wrap up in two years from then. The TDLR filing notes the exact construction completion date as October 15, 2026.

A Range of Dining, Beauty, and Other Businesses Anchor the Site

Mexican restaurants, dental ventures, and beauty shops will anchor the new retail property. Currently, three eating establishments offer Mexican eats within a mile of the Borgfeld Crossing site. Many salons are located within a three-mile radius of the project’s location. Nearby salons currently don’t offer nail services.

Tenants have already started signing leases at the Birnbaum Property Company-led retail hub. However, the San Antonio developer, which is working on two other shopping centers in the city, has not shared the final lineup yet.

Rising Traffic and Population at the Borgfeld Crossing Site

The retail site at Far North Side is positioned among Piper Ranch Middle School and Kinder Ranch Elementary School. Borgfeld Crossing is also in proximity to the newly opened Kinder Ranch neighborhood, which is inviting new house hunters to the region.

This area is already known to have consistently high traffic throughout the year. Marketing materials for the new retail project further mentioned that in 2022, about 12,000 vehicles traveled each day on Borgfeld Drive.

Birnbaum Property Company stated that the population is set to rise in the next five years within five miles of the Borgfeld Drive and Highland Crest intersection. While the 2024 population figure was estimated to be 87,000, it could grow to 97,000 by 2029.

Apart from Borgfeld Crossing, the Far North Side welcomes other projects as well. This includes the enhancement of a Walmart Supermarket. The $1.93 million project is expected to be completed in 2026. Another project is the opening of South Hausman, a 42-unit luxury condo project.

Borgfeld Crossing reinforces the Far North Side’s commercial growth. The $2.2 million project, with its strategic positioning in a busy San Antonio location, could improve its future landscape by 2026.
