British Restaurant and Pub The Lion & Rose, which closed down its last location at 5148 Broadway during COVID-19, is making plans to reopen in San Antonio — and its owner, Allen Tharp, tells What Now San Antonio, “This one is going to be our best one yet.”
The eatery, which Tharp describes as an “upscale restaurant featuring British and European food,” is now headed to 23330 West I-10, near the Dominion neighborhood and eateries such as Tardif’s American Brasserie and Texas Roadhouse.
According to a recently filed construction permit, The Lion & Rose will work with Legg Architecture, LLC to build the 5,400-square-foot restaurant from the ground up.
Concerning the cuisine, Tharp discloses that The Lion & Rose is currently working with chefs to revise its menu, but that patrons can continue to expect British items like shepherd’s pie, fish & chips, bangers & mash, and curries. To drink, there will be over 30 brews on tap, plenty more bottled options, as well as wine and cocktails.
“We think the neighborhood is great — we love the Dominion, we love the people. Plus, I-10 has great visibility. We’re really excited about the new location,” Tharp shares.
Lion & Rose is slated to open early this summer.
