San Antonio’s beloved live music venue and bar, The AMP Room, announced it will close on October 4 after a decade in business. The closure stems from a rent increase.

Decade-Old AMP Room to Close in San Antonio

Rising rent has prompted the closure of another well-known San Antonio venue. The decade-old The AMP Room, located in the heart of St. Mary’s St., confirmed the news on social media. The bar has been a staple of San Antonio’s nightlife.

The bar regularly hosted a variety of events, including local and touring live bands, karaoke, 80s-90s themed dance nights, and pumped DJ sets. The bar is popularly known for its vintage rustic decor, spacious dance floor, and lively outdoor patio.

Announcing the sudden news of its closure slated for October 4, The AMP Room released an official statement through a Facebook post, “Thank You for 10 Rockin’ Years. After an incredible decade, The AMP Room will be closing its doors due to a rent increase. We’re beyond grateful for the loyalty, love, and unforgettable nights we’ve shared with all of you.”

The post continued, “Join us for our last three weekends, and let’s make every night one to remember. Come raise a glass, sing along, and help us close this chapter the only way The AMP Room knows how — with music, friends, and good vibes.”

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making The AMP Room more than just a bar — you made it a community,” it also added.

Community Reaction

Following the announcement, San Antonio locals shared memories and well-wishes on social media. Regulars expressed their appreciation and shared memories of the venue. One of the fans and locals shared, “We love you! Always my favorite venue to play over the years! Thank you for all the support.”

Another guest wrote, “I’m gonna miss this place so much. I loved the ’80s Nights y’all would have. It was a nice alternative to driving all the way to Be Kind Rewind, and it was strictly 80’s… I loved it! Thanks for the memories!”

Patrons have two more weekends to visit The AMP Room before it closes for good.
