Gloria Jean’s Coffees, a Sydney-based multinational coffee chain, is planning on reestablishing its San Antonio presence with a new location on 101 West Euclid Avenue. The location will be its first operational store in San Antonio, though the chain used to have a presence North Star Mall as well.
What Now San Antonio reached out to the store’s owner, Johnny Rodriguez, about the new Midtown location, but he was not immediately available for comment.
According to a permit filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, the new location will span a 2,000-square-foot area and complete construction in April this year. Just a five-minute drive from downtown San Antonio, the location is a promising addition to a thriving Midtown market, near restaurants and bars like Luby’s and Purgatory.
The opening also marks a recent resurgence of the Gloria Jean’s Coffees brand after a slump period. In 2018, Retail Food Group, the conglomerate which owns Gloria Jean’s Coffee, announced over 200 store closures across the globe after a hefty fiscal year loss of over $300 million dollars. Prior to this, the company operated a San Antonio location at 7400 San Pedro Ave.
Since then, the Gloria Jean’s Coffees has reopened several locations worldwide, including a new store in Pharr, Texas in 2020. The San Antonio addition will be the company’s second outlet in the state.
Fans of Gloria Jean’s and new, curious customers will be treated to the restaurant’s wide selection of chillers, smoothies, teas, as well as hot and cold coffee drinks, including cold brew.
