According to a recently submitted permit application, a new bar and tasting room, The Free Spirit, plans to open in Gruene.
Coming to 1231 Gruene Road, the business will land near establishments such as Gruene Grove, Gruene River Grill, and Inferno’s Wood-Fired Oven & Spirits.
The concept offers a brief introduction on its website: “A new distillery, a first for New Braunfels Texas, is under development at the entrance to Historic Gruene Texas.”
“We will be introducing new craft spirits to the region including bourbon, single malt whiskey, whiskey developed from mesquite-smoked barley, unique gin from Agarita berries and Guijillo honey aged in used whiskey barrels, and a very special Vodka product made from red wheat,” the statement continues.
Construction of the 2,239-square-foot spot is scheduled to begin on July 1 and finish in July 2026. The project will cost an estimated $2,000,000 to complete.
An opening date has not been announced yet, but the website states: “Coming soon a tasting room with cocktails made from our products will be available.”
