Canopy by Hilton in San Antonio — a Riverwalk adjacent boutique hotel that’s known for its “stunning views” — is planning to introduce a new dining concept under the St. Mary’s Street Bridge.
According to a report by My San Antonio, “Conceptual designs were submitted to the Historic and Design Review Commission for an outdoor bar” at 123 N. Saint Mary’s Street, Canopy’s address, by the San Antonio-based architecture firm Lake Flato.
Documents submitted to the HDRC insinuate that the bar’s construction would cause no damage to St. Mary’s Bridge or the Riverwalk, sharing that the structure could be removed “without touching the historic fabric.” Renderings are also included in the filling, which display a full-service bar with bar and table seating.
“We are proposing to re-purpose an existing empty space on our vibrant, historic River Walk into an active social place for locals and tourists alike,” the filing shares.
The application repeatedly refers to the project as “Under the Bridge,” however, it’s not clear whether or not this is the intended name of the proposed establishment.
According to My San Antonio, the proposal will be presented to HDRC for approval on Wednesday, July 19.
