According to a recently submitted permit application, Cold Stone Creamery is expanding its presence in San Antonio, preparing to debut a new shop on the city’s west side next spring.
Coming to Dove Creek Shopping Center at 407 TX-1604, Suite 105, the shop will land near establishments such as Olive Garden, P. Terry’s, and the department store TJ Maxx.
What Now San Antonio spoke briefly with the upcoming location’s franchisee, Jasvinder Singh, who confirmed that he would be opening a Cold Stone Creamery outpost in San Antonio; however, he could not provide additional information before publication.
Nevertheless, the filing reveals that the interior finish-out of the 1,932 square-foot space (which will include constructing additional walls, updating fixtures, and adding a fresh coat of paint) is scheduled to begin on November 16 and to be completed on March 17, 2026. The St. Louis-based firm ARCVISION is tasked with carrying out the $250,000 project.
While Cold Stone Creamery is a familiar name to ice cream eaters across Texas, its history is less well-known.
Founded in 1988 in Tempe, Arizona, the business is the brainchild of the couple Donald and Susan Sutherland, who “were ice cream fanatics and traveled all over the world trying to find the perfect ice cream,” per the Cold Stone Creamery website.
“What the Sutherlands discovered in the 1980s still persists among a lot of our competitors, who bring their ice cream in tubs or vats, and the ice cream sits until they sell it or it goes bad. This key difference is why Cold Stone Creamery has such a heavenly taste, that perfect ice cream taste that you want when you’re in the mood for ice cream: we make the ice cream in the same store where you come in to get it,” the statement continues.
The company began franchising in 1994 and, in 2007, was purchased by Kahala BrandsTM. Today, it operates nearly 3,000 locations across 30 countries.
