Bandit Bids Farewell to San Antonio
Bandit BBQ & Burgers has officially closed its doors in San Antonio this October after making an official announcement through their Instagram page. The restaurant operated for only seven months before closing.
The restaurant opened in San Antonio this year, in March, and was known for its signature barbecue plates and lively atmosphere. In the social media post, the owners cited “a number of circumstances” behind the decision of closure, stating that continuing operations had become impossible.
The restaurant has posted about it on Instagram, stating, “It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we share the news that Bandit BBQ & Burgers has officially closed its doors. This is not a message we ever hoped to write, and making this decision has been one of the hardest steps of our journey.”

The Legacy of Bandit Barbecue
Bandit BBQ’s origins date to the 1960s, when a World War II veteran from Mason, Texas, opened a cafe and honed his barbecue skills. Years later, his grandson, Chef Brandon Peterson, carried on the family tradition and launched Bandit BBQ & Burgers. In 2013, Brandon purchased his first smoker and started creating his grandfather’s recipes, particularly the favorite “Granddad’s” BBQ sauce that became Bandit’s trademark.
Bandit built a legacy rooted in family, community, and authentic Texas barbecue, beginning in Southtown and culminating with its final location on Nacogdoches Road.
