According to a recently submitted permit application, Merchant’s Ice Innovation Center — “a world-class redevelopment project located on the east side of San Antonio’s urban core,” according to its website — will include a cafe concept on the ground level of one of its existing historical office buildings.
“The project will provide a Class A innovation hub dedicated to life science, bio tech, military research, and emerging technologies, it will offer a unique campus for collaboration and entrepreneurship, and will become an anchor for broader innovation district for the city’s life science and commercial ecosystem,” the center shares on its website.
The filing details that the finish-out of the 1,800-square-foot space is scheduled to begin on May 30 and be completed by October 31.
Behind the project are the Texas Research & Technology Foundation and VelocityTX an innovation hub that “stimulates company research, development, and formation; encourages economic development and attract companies in the high-tech, life sciences and biotech industries; improves and diversifies the economy; creates high-paying and high-tech jobs; and leverages life science, high-technology and biotech assets within the city of San Antonio and across the region,” according to a brief description on the VelocityTX website.
An opening date for the cafe has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
